Our Story
Established in 1956 as a not-for-profit recovery organization, The Cincinnati Eye Bank regularly provides donor eyes for corneal transplantation, ophthalmic research, and for the teaching of ocular surgery to resident eye physicians in the greater Cincinnati area. We have also established programs for public and professional education about the need for eye donation.
Since our founding, we have grown to meet the ever-increasing demand for high-quality corneal tissue for transplantation. In our first year of operation, we provided approximately 30 corneas for transplantation.

Our Mission
We aim to provide donated human eye tissue for corneal transplantation, research, and teaching. Regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration),
we undergo regular inspections to ensure compliance with all current regulatory requirements.
Our Staff
We have a staff of experienced and dedicated employees who are committed to our mission of providing donated human eye tissue for corneal transplant, medical research, and teaching. Each member of the Recovery Staff goes through an in-depth training program to learn how to recover and evaluate donor eye tissues. We also have multiple Certified Eye Bank Technicians (CEBT), who passed the certification examination of the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA).

Accreditation
The Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), the nationally recognized accrediting body for eye banks, has accredited us. A team of professionals with extensive experience in eye banking and/or corneal transplantation conducts site inspections of eye banks at least every three years to evaluate adherence to EBAA Medical Standards and procedures.
EBAA accreditation meets or exceeds most state and national regulations, thereby fostering public confidence in eye banking. Given this, we strive to maintain the highest level of EBAA accreditation.
Registration
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the regulatory agency for Eye and Tissue Banking, has registered us and conducts regular inspections to ensure compliance with current regulatory requirements
